Create a catalog for product ads
A catalog is what lets Meta sell your whole inventory without you building an ad per product. Managed in Commerce Manager, it is a structured feed of your items (products, hotels, flights, listings, vehicles), each carrying fields like ID, name, price, image, and availability. Feed it well and Meta assembles personalized ads on the fly across Advantage+ Catalog Ads, Shops, and Marketplace.
Catalog types
Four vertical types: E-commerce (physical and digital products), Travel (Hotels, Flights, Destinations), Real Estate (Home Listings), and Auto (Vehicles). Each unlocks vertical-specific ad formats.
Feed formats
Supported file formats: CSV, TSV, Google Sheets (via URL), and XML (RSS or ATOM). Compressed ZIP and GZIP variants are also accepted.
Ingestion options: manual upload, scheduled feed via URL (hourly, daily, or weekly), direct Shopify or WooCommerce or BigCommerce integration, or Pixel-built catalogs where Meta builds the catalog by reading Open Graph or schema.org markup as users view product pages.
Microdata-built catalogs only add a product when someone visits its page. Long-tail SKUs that get no organic traffic never enter the catalog. Use a feed for full coverage.
Required fields
At minimum: `id`, `title`, `description`, `availability`, `condition`, `price`, `link`, `image_link`, and `brand`. Catalogs support 100+ optional fields beyond these.
Currency mismatch between catalog (`price: 49 USD`) and Pixel events (`currency: EUR`) silently breaks Purchase value attribution.
Match rate to the Pixel
Catalog ads need three Pixel or CAPI events firing with `content_ids` matching the catalog's product ID field: ViewContent (product detail page), AddToCart, and Purchase.
Meta recommends a 75 percent minimum match rate, ideally 90 percent or higher. Below that, dynamic retargeting fragments and prospecting models underperform.
