Build mode vs Plan mode
The Studio composer has two modes: Build, where the assistant changes things, and Plan, where it only thinks out loud. Knowing which one you are in is the difference between a conversation and a rebuild.
Two modes, one toggle
Build mode is the default. In Build mode the assistant acts: it creates the event, edits the page, writes the code, and reports what it did. When you say make it, it makes it.
Plan mode is for thinking before touching. Toggle it with Option-P (the same shortcut switches you back). In Plan mode the assistant's write tools are withheld for that message: it discusses, proposes, sketches the approach, and changes nothing. That holds however small the change sounds and however clearly you already agreed to it. A plan message is a plan message, not a quiet build.
When to plan first
Plan mode earns its keep on anything with more than one step or more than one right answer: restructuring a site, a pricing change across several pages, a launch with events and emails and a landing page. Talk it through, push back, change your mind. Nothing costs you a rebuild because nothing is being built.
For a one-line change, skip the ceremony. Stay in Build mode and just ask. The assistant confirms before anything irreversible either way, so Build mode is not a mode without brakes.
Turning a plan into work
One write does work in Plan mode: turning the plan into a task list. When the plan is settled, ask the assistant to file it as tasks and each step lands in your project as real, trackable work, in one step, without leaving Plan mode.
To execute instead, switch to Build mode with Option-P and tell the assistant to go. It picks up the plan you just agreed and makes the changes.
What each message costs
A chat message starts at 0.5 credits and a plan message at 1. Both are starting prices that rise with how much work the reply actually took. Planning is cheap on purpose: the expensive mistakes are the ones you build, not the ones you talk through.
When it does not work
You asked for a change and nothing changed: check the composer. If you are in Plan mode, that is the mode doing its job, not the assistant ignoring you. Switch to Build mode with Option-P and ask again.
You agreed to something in Plan mode and expected it done: agreement in Plan mode is still a plan. The assistant will not act on it until you are in Build mode, or until you ask it to file the plan as tasks and run those.
You want the plan kept: file it as a task list before you move on. A plan that only lives in the conversation is a plan you have to re-explain.
