Run a fundraiser
A fundraiser is a product where the donor sets the price. It gets its own donate page with a goal bar, preset amounts, and a donor wall, and every donation lands in your orders like any other sale.
What a fundraiser is
A fundraiser is a product type with a price of zero, because donors choose their own amount on the page. On top of that you set a goal, an optional end date, and the trust details: whether donations are tax deductible, your EIN if your organization has one, and whether donors may give anonymously.
You can also add matching, so gifts count for more during a matching window. Set it up from Products or tell the assistant what you are raising for and it builds the whole campaign.
The donate page
Every fundraiser gets a live donate page at your store's address under /fundraisers, in the form yourstore/fundraisers/your-fundraiser. That page is the campaign: a goal bar showing progress, preset amounts from 10 to 500 dollars plus a custom field, and a donor wall with masked names and messages that respects everyone who chose to give anonymously. After giving, donors see a thank-you state.
One thing to get right: the regular product page is not the donate page. When you share the campaign, share the fundraisers link. That is the page with the goal bar and the giving flow.
Where the money shows up
Donations land as orders of kind donation, so they appear in your orders and your finance numbers like any sale. When you ask how the campaign is doing, a fundraiser reports what it has raised against the goal and how many donors gave, rather than a price.
When it does not work
Nobody can find the giving page: you shared the product page instead of the donate page. Share the fundraisers link, it is the only page with the goal bar and the donation flow.
A donor asked to be anonymous but wants to be sure: the donor wall masks names, and a donor who gave anonymously is respected on the wall. Anonymous giving has to be allowed on the fundraiser, so check that option is on before the campaign runs.
The goal bar went down: a donation was refunded. Refunding a donation automatically comes off the goal bar, so the bar always shows what has actually been raised.
The campaign should have ended but the page is still taking gifts: check whether you set an end date. The end date is optional, and a fundraiser without one runs until you unpublish it.
